Pro basketball action is slated to restart in a month’s time in Orlando, and the race to reach the postseason in the loaded West will generate action thanks to NBA to make the playoffs betting odds.
The Eastern Conference playoff teams look set. Brooklyn and Orlando are 5.5 games ahead of Washington, though the Nets’ roster issues could become an obstacle. The West is much more of a free-for-all. Memphis is being chased by five teams for the No. 8 seed and is likely going to have to win an additional game once its regular season wraps up.
If the No. 9 seed finishes within 3.5 games of the No. 8, a play-in series is triggered. The No. 8 seed only has to win once to reach the playoffs, while the No. 9 basically has to win two in succession.
The Grizzlies have a 3.5-game lead on the field, but they are only slight favorites to qualify for the playoffs according to the BetMGM NBA to make the playoffs betting odds. After going 4-6 in their last ten games prior to the hiatus. Back when futures where in play in October, the Grizzlies didn’t have a single MVP candidate among odds futures. Fast forward to early March, where they would’ve never dreamed having to finish their stunning run at Disney’s Wide World of Sports come August.

Ja Morant is favored to win Rookie of the Year despite not being the top choice per future odds during October’s preseason. The point guard’s impressive play has the Grizzlies in pole position to reach the postseason per NBA to make the playoffs betting odds. Morant leads Memphis in points and assists and returns recharged. There are no longer any worries about him running out of gas and hitting the rookie wall given the layoff. Memphis can ease its path to clinching its first postseason berth since 2017 by winning its first three games. The Grizzlies will take on Portland, San Antonio, and New Orleans in a four-day stretch. All three are chasing the Griz for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference and can be dusted via head-to-head losses.
A perfect record against those teams would all but ensure Memphis makes the playoffs, but stumbling could throw the floodgates open. Bettors in Tennessee might have an opportunity to make legal sports betting wagers on the Grizzlies soon according to sportshandle.com.
New Orleans Pelicans Playoffs Odds – BetMGM
Yes +325 No -455
The Pelicans are going to be a popular pick at these NBA to make the playoffs betting odds. New Orleans is already 3.5 games back of Memphis and benefits from one of the easier remaining schedules.
Six of the Pels’ eight games will be against teams that aren’t currently locked into the postseason. There is a good chance a few of those teams will have nothing to play for by the time they meet.
New Orleans also has the most talented roster of all the teams fighting for a playoff spot. Rookie Zion Williamson is healthy and has already proven to be a transcendent talent alongside Brandon Ingram in the frontcourt. Center Derrick Favors is a stabilizing presence at both ends when healthy.
Led by Jrue Holiday, New Orleans’ guard play has been solid too. Shooter J.J. Redick should be ready to go again by the end of the month. New Orleans is the team most likely to catch Memphis, and the Pelicans are worth a play at this price considering they were 15-17 away from the Big Easy this season.
Portland Trail Blazers Playoffs Odds – BetMGM
Yes +350 No -556
There is optimism in Rip City that the Blazers can make up ground due to the the return of big men Jusuf Nurkic and Zach Collins. Lacking frontcourt depth submarined Portland’s chances of winning its division, but the Blazers can make some noise in Orlando. Most of the starters that led this team to the Western Conference Finals last year have returned and Hassan Whiteside is on board as well.
Everything still runs through Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum. The two guards have both hit 38 percent or more from downtown this season, and their play will be instrumental to Portland’s postseason hopes. With Trevor Ariza sitting out, veteran Carmelo Anthony should be an x-factor.
Unfortunately, the Blazers have a more difficult schedule than New Orleans and won’t get the benefit of meeting the Pelicans head-to-head. Additionally, while they were 18-14 in Portland, the Blazers had the second-worst road record in the conference.
Sacramento Kings Playoffs Odds – BetMGM
Yes +1000 No -3334
Sacramento was one of the feel-good stories of the season. The Kings came out of nowhere to make a run at the postseason, but Marvin Bagley III’s injury all but dashed those hopes. He’s played in just 13 games but hopes to make up for lost time in the bubble.
While the Kings are in the same position as the Pelicans and Blazers in the standings, they don’t have the same talent on defense and will need some real magic out of De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield to sneak into ninth.
The good news for their NBA to make the playoffs betting odds is that their schedule looks manageable. Luke Walton’s Kings will play six games against teams that have yet to qualify for the postseason. Hield is among a handful of players stricken with COVID-19 who are expected to recover prior to making the trip.
San Antonio Spurs Playoffs Odds – BetMGM
Yes +1400 No -5000
All good things must come to an end. The Spurs’ NBA record-tying 21-year streak of reaching the playoffs is likely to be snapped given the logjam ahead of them and it appears to be time for one of sports’ most well-run franchises to hit the reset button.
San Antonio has the third-worst road record in the Western Conference, and won’t have LaMarcus Aldridge in Orlando following shoulder surgery. A young backcourt must make strides for the team to return to contention, so Dejounte Murray should be showcased. Gregg Popovich has done yeoman’s work, but he’s squeezed as much as he can from this roster.
Phoenix Suns Playoffs Odds – BetMGM
Yes +5000 No (Off the Board)
The Suns are six games back of the Grizzles and face an immense task in attempting making the postseason. Pulling the trigger on NBA to make the playoffs betting odds for a big payday isn’t advisable. Still, it will be good for this young roster to experience a playoff-like environment, and head coach Monty Williams is looking forward to a little player development.
Phoenix has a cumulative point differential of -1.3 that’s better than Portland, San Antonio, and Sacramento. There will be some excellent chances to bet Phoenix on the money line but they’ll have to overcome Kelly Oubre’s absence. Center DeAndre Ayton and guard Devin Booker are capable of taking over games and sparking upsets.
