Everton have confirmed a new kit manufacturer as hummel have signed a three-year deal with the Blues. The club-record agreement will see the sportswear brand kit out the Men’s, Women’s and Academy squads as well as the club’s coaching and Everton in the Community staff. The new sponsorship deal signifies the end of the club’s agreement with Umbro, who have manufactured the Blues kit since the 2014/15 campaign. So, who are Everton’s new kit supplier? And who have they worked with in the past? We’ve had a look back through hummel’s history to give a bit of insight into the Blues latest partner. Origins “Messmer & Co” was originally founded in Hamburg in 1923 by two brothers, Albert Messmer and Michael Ludwig Messmer. In that same year, Albert Messmer develop one of the first football boots in the world. However, the company soon changed its name to hummel and then were taken over in 1956 by Bernhard Weckenbrock. From then, the sportswear brand has grown into a worldwide manufacturer – with a number of interesting sports sponsorship deals in its past. In 1999, hummel was taken over by father and son team Thor and Christian Stadil – with their headquarters now based in Aarhus in Denmark. Sponsorship deals In 1968, hummel secured their first ever sponsorship deal with German second division side Duisburg, ahead of the brand being introduced to the north European market two years later. Since then, the brand has been involved with some of the top teams in world football – drawing the eye on the international scene as well as the club one.

The brand first made kits for the Denmark national team in 1979 and still produces them to this day, with the highlight of that tenure of course coming with the country’s shock triumph at Euro 1992. At club level, hummel confirmed a sponsorship of Real Madrid in 1988 in what is their most high-profile deal to date – alongside sponsoring their star striker at the time Emilio Butragueño. Tottenham Hotspur, Benfica, Aston Villa, Feyenoord, Rangers and Red Star Belgrade have all donned the famous chevrons in the past – while the company is a kit supplier to a number of teams in England and across Europe with the likes of Middlesbrough, Charlton and Bundesliga side Freiburg currently on their books today. Previous Everton connection? While hummel have not provided kits for Everton in the past, there is an interesting connection between the two that is certainly worth making note of. But, one part of his appearance particularly caught the eye. Ball’s pristine white boots were provided by hummel, then a relatively unknown brand in the UK. It was the first time a player’s boots had not been coloured brown or black. This latest partnership with Everton, rather fittingly, will mark the 50th anniversary of this event. What they have said Hummel are very clear about what their values entail, and it’s something that Everton fans could find very interesting.
