Ex-Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech has retired from football this coming after failing to secure a deal with any local club.
Oliech has been clubless since leaving Gor Mahia ate the start of the season with the former Stars captain having been linked with a move to Kenyan Premier League newbies Wazito FC.
Apart from Wazito, Oliech had been linked with a move to Coastal side Bandari FC but it is said that there was no concrete interest from the said clubs.
As quoted by Nation Sports, Oliech said: “I have officially retired from playing football and will venture into business. I had stated when I left Gor Mahia that I would bounce back by joining Wazito or Bandari, but nothing is forthcoming and that is why I have not seen any need to continue. I have retired both international and at a club level.”
Oliech being one of the most revered players in the Kenyan soccer started his career with Dagoretti Santos before moving to Kenyan Premier League side Mathare United. The player turned professional in 2003 when he moved to Qatar side Al-Arabi.
He was to move to the French Ligue One in 2005 when Nantes acquired his services on a four-year deal. He was to have stints with AC Ajaccio and Dubai CSC before returning to the Kenyan scene in 2019 with Gor Mahia after some time out of action.
He scored 34 goals in his 72 games for the Kenyan national team-Harambee Stars.
