This offseason, both AJ Green and Cincinnati expressed their desires for Green to remain a Bengal for years to come.
Green is in his ninth NFL season, which is also a contract year for the star wideout. He is yet to play a game for the Bengals after suffering an ankle injury over the summer that required surgery to repair. And now, with the team sitting at 0-7 and with the Bengals clearly in rebuilding mode, it does not look as if Green will be a part of those future plans.
For both parties, it’s probably best to move on. Following this season, I would not expect Green to re-sign with Cincinnati, despite what was said in the offseason. So it makes sense the Bengals would look to get something in return for Green via a trade, before it’s too late.
CBSSports.com took a look at five teams who should look to trade for the former Georgia Bulldog.
The NFL trade deadline is October 29th.
1. Green Bay Packers
Adding a high caliber weapon to Rodgers’ holster would make the Packers passing attack absolutely lethal going forward.
2. Buffalo Bills
Adding Green to play opposite John Brown with Cole Beasley underneath would do the trick, and immediately improve the 12th-worst passing attack in the NFL.
3. Oakland Raiders
The good news is, Green is an instant fix for what ails them, if they can make the deal happen.
4. Carolina Panthers
Granted, the change at quarterback impacts some of this, but Green has racked up 8,907 receiving yards and 63 touchdowns with Dalton as his QB, and that’s all you need to know about what he can do for Kyle Allen or Cam Newton.
5. Arizona Cardinals
Adding Green to tandem with Fitzgerald could keep the Niners, Rams, and others from sending the Cardinals back to the graveyard.
