The plan to have Akiem Hicks battle through a knee injury in London was dashed following only eight plays after the Pro Bowl defensive end suffered a left arm/elbow injury when it collided with Khalil Mack’s helmet at the end of a Josh Jacobs run on Oakland’s opening series.
Hicks, who missed last week’s game vs. the Minnesota Vikings — his first time being inactive with the Bears — didn’t practice Wednesday and Thursday prior to getting in some work Friday and receiving a questionable tag, with Matt Nagy calling him a game-time decision.
Hicks was initially tended to by trainers and walked off the field with his arm being held in place, stopping quickly in the medical tent before heading to the locker room. Judging by the replay, which caught a rather grisly shot of Hicks’ elbow, it seems unlikely he’ll be returning Sunday. He was listed as questionable by the Bears, who have only four other D-linemen active — Eddie Goldman, Roy Robertson-Harris, Nick Williams and Jonathan Harris — against the run-heavy Raiders.
