The National League North takes a back seat for Chester FC this afternoon as they switch their attention to the world’s most famous domestic cup competition, the FA Cup. The Blues entertain fellow North side Altrincham at the Deva Stadium in the second qualifying round with progress in the competition and a cheque for over £6,000 the prize for the victors today. It’s been five years since Chester last made the first round proper of the FA Cup, a feat that they have only achieved once as a fan-owned football club. And while managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley may be more focused on promotion this season a run in the cup can be extremely lucrative for a team of Chester’s side. Altrincham have a cup pedigree and they will be keen to pick up a positive result to help give their season a boost after a slower than expected start. We’ll bring you all the action from the Deva as it happens as Chester seek progress in the FA Cup.
