Barcelona defender Junior Firpo insists his ambition is to displace Jordi Alba from the starting eleven, as well as learn from him.
Junior – who joined from Real Betis this summer – rose to prominence under Quique Setién last term with his attacking style of play.
And with Alba currently first choice at Barça, the 23-year-old is hoping to challenge him where others have failed.
“I work daily and I strive to be ready when the coach tells me what to play,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“It’s true that Jordi (Alba) is more experienced, but I am here to fight and I want to make it difficult for him.
“He is a very good reference and the best competition I can have – the best left-back in the world – so I will improve a lot.
“I can watch him, see the movements he makes, and learn from him. But my ambition is always to play.”
Junior is likely to be on the bench as Barça host former side Betis on Sunday.
