Rumours about the Ajax captain moving to Old Trafford in a £70million deal began to gather momentum over the weekend.

However, Sky Sports are now claiming the United hierarchy fear the 19-year-old is set to sign for Barcelona instead.
De Ligt was a regular for Ajax over the past three seasons and captained the club to a Eredivisie and cup double this campaign.

“Every year new players come in. So far we have confirmed De Jong’s signing and now we will work on bringing in others and moving players on, as is normal every summer,” Bartomeu said.
“Now is not the moment to do anything. There are always new signings, but now is not the moment to talk about it.”
Reports earlier on Sunday suggested the Red Devils would be targeting Benfica defender Ruben Dias after being quoted a colossal £150million to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
