Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons and celebrity girlfriend Kendall Jenner have called it quits after a year of dating — and it reportedly happened during the team’s playoff run earlier this month.
According to E! News, the couple broke up some time before this year’s Met Gala (which took place at the same time the Sixers were locked in a heated, seven-game NBA playoff series with the Toronto Raptors). Some on Twitter have pointed out that Simmons struggled during that series.
A source told the outlet that the two split because the geographic distance between them had been “getting to be a lot”
“Kendall knew she had several out of the country trips coming up and thought it would be best if they took some space. It’s been hard for them with the time differences and both of their schedules but there is a chance they will get back together.” but says “they are still on fine terms and have been in touch,” the source told E! News.
The couple had been fairly private when talking about their relationship, but they were spotted together at several events, and Jenner frequented 76er’s games.
Some 76er’s fans have joked that Simmons may get better at his job now that he’s broken free of the “Kardashian Curse” (a prevalent theory on the Internet that the Kardashian family ruins the lives of the men and women they date).
The 76ers were eventually ousted from the NBA playoffs earlier this month by the Toronto Raptors, thanks to a last second miracle shot by Kawhi Leonard.
